About the name

I'm Stephen Ango Oliver. Stephen Ango Oliver is my first and middle name, and Ango comes from my grandfather, Ango Clarence Oliver.

Putting his name on this work is my way of honoring him and holding myself to his standard: do honest work, do it well, and treat people right.

My grandfather carried a compass with a light blue north needle. Scratched into it were four words:

“Blue always points north.”

I think about that often. It's a good reminder to know where you're headed and keep moving toward it.
